‘Topografia of the Unconcious’ was part of a larger project commissioned by a group of doctors and social workers from the Ospedale Psichiatrico di Quarto in Genoa. Over the years the population of the old psychiatric hospital has decreased from 1,500 to 60 patients. As a result, the client asked to reimagine what have now become underused spaces of the site.

Topografia of the Unconcious addresses the theme of madness and challenges
the taboos associated with mental health and is a request to both rethink and design ‘spaces of interaction’ between patients and doctors in order to disrupt the unconcious fear of getting infected (underlined by the use of materials by asylums).
