Public Realm

“Public Realm” embarked with the acquisition of my Hasselblad 500C/M in 2018, propelling me into a solo exploration of Naples. Living in Genoa at the time, I was intrigued by the cities’ purported similarities. Without a phone for two years, I relied solely on maps and local interactions to navigate. Initially focused on architecture, I soon confronted a sense of isolation, prompting a shift towards connecting with people.

Captivated by moments of beauty in everyday scenes, I approached individuals on streets, beaches, and markets, seeking permission to photograph them in their natural radiance, often explaining my request by simply stating, “In this light, you look beautiful.” This approach not only deepened my affinity for the Hasselblad but also marked the beginning of a love story with portrait photography. The project continued to evolve in Rome, further enriched by a residency at the British School at Rome, cementing “Public Realm” as a cornerstone of my photographic journey.
