During the vibrant Uttarayan kite festival in Ahmedabad on January 14th, my journey through the celebration took me beyond the confines of the old city to various rooftops scattered across the urban expanse. This photo series captures the essence of the festival during a period of unusually low winds, focusing on the perseverance and ingenuity of kite enthusiasts.

From my unique vantage points, I documented the fervent efforts of flyers against a backdrop of Ahmedabad’s diverse architecture, revealing both the intimate rooftop celebrations and the collective joy that envelops the city. The series portrays the meticulous preparation and communal exhilaration of the festival, offering a panoramic view of the cultural tapestry that Uttarayan weaves across the city. Through these images, I sought to encapsulate the festival’s spirit: a vibrant celebration of tradition, unity, and the indomitable will to fill the sky with color, even in the calmest air.
